MANAGEMENT OF SEASONAL & SITE VARIATION: FOR PROFITABILITY & VINEYARD SUCCESS

Predictability of yield and quality, and the security of vineyard performance is key to a successful and profitable businesses –  in the UK and globally.  Variability has adverse impacts on yield, fruit composition – with serious consequences for all aspects of the business.

In this Masterclass internationally renowned experts, Peter Hayes, Dr Glen Creasy, along with Jonathan Rodwell will address the main factors for managing and controlling variability.  Dr Glen Creasy will be joining by video link for the presentation and panel discussion.

This masterclass will focus on:

  • Understanding site variability and seasonal impacts
  • Floral initiation, fruit-set, and yield stabilisation

THE SPEAKERS

Peter Hayes

Peter Hayes has extensive experience across education and training, R&D investment and management, viticultural operations and government and industry affairs in a 35+ year career in the wine industry.

He has been an active promoter of R&D, and professional development activity contributing to adaptation and innovation within the sector and now operates as an independent Wine Industry Strategist and Advisor with activity in Australia and the UK.

Previous industry positions held include amongst others, President, International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV); President, Australian Society of Viticulture and Oenology (ASVO) and Council Member, Australian Wine Research Institute (AWRI).

Qualifications held are B.Sc. (University of Melbourne), Dip.Ed. (Monash University), B.App.Sci.-Wine Science (Riverina College/CSU); MS-Horticulture (UCDavis).

 

Dr Glen Creasy

Originally from New York State, Glen Creasy earned his undergraduate degree at Cornell University, which then segued into a Masters and PhD in viticulture at Oregon State University. This was followed by two years as a post-doc with the NSW Department of Agriculture in Australia. He took a position at Lincoln University in New Zealand in 1998, where he was a lecturer, researcher and consultant before moving to southern France in early 2018.

Glen has authored numerous industry articles and book chapters, contributed entries in the Oxford Companion to Wine and with his Dad, Leroy, co-authored two editions of the book “Grapes,” published by CAB International. Glen has segued into commercial production in France with the part ownership of a vineyard and winery, Terre des 2 Sources.

Jonathan Rodwell

A member of the Vinescapes viticulture team, Jonathan qualified from University College Davis, California, and has since gained over 40 years’ experience in developing and managing vineyard and winery operations around the world.  He is particularly focused on specialisation in vineyard resilience, re-generative agriculture, precision viticulture, and the elements required for excellence in ‘wine growing’.
