Vineyard projects

Site selection is key to successful viticulture but critical decision making processes regarding vineyard establishment don’t end there. To help clients ensure they manage the potential and the risks in vineyards, and help them optimise returns on investment Vinescapes provides comprehensive vineyard assessment and project management services. These cover site assessments, vineyard design, site and soil amelioration, varietal (and rootstock and clonal) selection and viticulture consultancy. We don’t plant or manage vineyards ourselves but we can recommend expert establishment and management contractors to do so.

Vinescapes is at the very forefront of viticulture suitability and risk analysis. Our Vineyard suitability Mapping Assessment Platform (VineMAP) is a state-of-the-art objective suitability assessment tool for viticulture in England. Through VineMAP both land and climatic suitability for vinegrowing can be assessed at ultra-high resolution (field scale) within minutes and reports generated to inform investment and vine management decisions. The suitability model employed in VineMAP is backed by scientific research to support the critical decision making process regarding where best to plant vineyards.

Winery design and construction

Good winery design is critical to high quality wine production and returns on investment. Winery buildings always have a range of functions and their development is multifaceted requiring a team of experts working across wine production, building design/architecture, planning, utilities and construction to deliver them. Our detailed understanding of wine production technology, wine making processes, space and utility requirements, winery waste processing, planning regulations and processes, and sustainable architecture enables us to provide a comprehensive design and build service.

  • ‘VineMAP is absolutely crucial in the development of any new vineyard land, enabling costly mistakes to be avoided.  It has clear mapping of all the essential factors that make decisions as to the suitability of a site or parts of a site straightforward. This has the potential to revolutionise UK wine production and ensure that only the most suitable sites for grape growing are planted’

Cameron Roucher Vineyard Manager, Rathfinny Wine Estate.
  • 'With the accessibility of VineMAP in terms of cost and functionality, I would be professionally obliged to deploy most or all of its functions as a basis for evaluating client’s candidate vineyard sites; in any case, use of VineMAP would very likely be the most cost-effective way of accessing the data-set and then presenting it for a client.'

Peter Hayes Wine Industry Strategist & Advisor (global)
  • Vinescapes have been the perfect partner for us in our new adventure, guiding us through the work. We are always able to get hold of them and nothing is too much trouble. We would recommend Vinescapes to anyone thinking of planting vines.
